Apple and Oat Bars | Food Prep Series

This is a delicious dessert that is good for you. Hmmm… a dessert good for you? This dessert has whole grain oats instead of regular flour. Oats are a good source of soluble fiber, B vitamins, vitamin E, magnesium, calcium, and iron which your body needs. So go head, and indulge on this healthy treat!


1 ½ cups oats, ground
1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. salt
1/3 cup mint 85% dark chocolate
½ cup Granny Smith apples, chopped into small pieces
2/3 cup walnuts, roughly chopped
2/3 cup honey
2/3 cup cocoa powder
2 eggs
1 cup apple sauce
2 Tbsp. olive oil
1 tsp. Vanilla extract
½ tsp. nutmeg
*Makes 15 bars
- serve this with 1 cup of warm milk and a teaspoon of vanilla extract
Apple and Oat Bars
1. Preheat oven 375 F
2. In a large bowl mix flour, oats, baking powder, salt, walnuts, chocolate, apple and nutmeg
3. In another bowl mix cocoa powder, apple sauce, honey, vanilla extract, olive oil, and eggs
4. Mix dry and wet ingredients
5. On a 9X9 baking dish cover with parchment paper, pour dough into pan and press until you get an even layer
6. Cook for 10-12 minutes and let cool before serving, store in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days or refrigerator for a week
